John will be whole-heartedly missed and remembered by his Grandson, 8 year old Gage William Charles Leisure, of whom he was so proud of.

John will be missed & remembered lovingly by his many nieces, nephews and his extended family; Step-sisters and Step-brother and many dear friends. John was graduate of Franklin High School in Portland Oregon and was a member of their Track and Field team and Football team where he attained the honor of being an MVP. After graduation, John trained and worked as an Auto Mechanic. John was known for his expert skills in Foosball and was a very competitive player in his glory days.

When the family had a gathering, John could always be found playing football or basketball with all the kids, at his sister Jean’s house, in their driveway. He loved his family and his son said ” those times & memories of playing basketball with his Dad will always stay with him, they were good times”. John loved all genres of music and he loved writing stories and poetry which he shared with his family and friends through the years.

All who knew John, knew that he had a sense of humor like no one else.  His daughter said “he liked telling jokes even if he’d told the same ones, over and over again.    Some family members called it being “John-er-ized”. His older brother; Rip and his wife; Debby recalled a time when they experienced a bit of John’s humor, first hand.  They had driven to Oregon as the stat of their Honeymoon and arrived at Dad Leisure’s home to stay a few days and introduce his Bride to the family. To John, it didn’t matter why they were there, he was just thrilled to have his big brother Rip home again. As bedtime approached, John proceeded to do as he always had when he and his big brother shared a room.  He gathered up his stuffed animal pal; Ralph and just crawled into their bed and made himself comfortable, then asked Rip in a very serious manor…”So where is SHE gonna sleep?”

John also loved going hunting with his Dad in his younger years and fishing had been a passion of his since his youth as well. His son Sam, wanted it said “John; my Dad, may be gone from us here on earth but he’s now in a better position to watch over all of us and he will always be in our hearts, never forgotten.”
