Jennifer (Jen not Jenny) Mae Bergan

November 25, 1970 – April 20, 2023

Jennifer was born to Arthur (Larry)DeVet & Lynne DeVet 11/25/1970. Jennifer died April 20th 2023 at 52 years old. She passed away peacefully after battling CIDP and other health issues that began in 2016.

She is survived by her parents Larry & Lynne DeVet, husband Michael Gene Bergan & children Andrew Cruise Elswick, Tyler Shane Bergan & Kelsey Lynne Paige Bergan. Her siblings Mitchell DeVet, Robert DeVet & Susan DeVet. Her two grandchildren Hazel L. Elswick & Jaxon Elswick.

Jennifer was born in Portland Oregon, lived briefly in Groton, Connecticut and moved back home to Portland. At the time of her death she lived with her husband Mike in Gresham Oregon.

David Douglas High School was where she graduated in 1989.

Jennifer’s early employment was at the Great Hot Dog Experience in Mall 205, 2 + 2 Jewlery & Accessories in Clackamas Town Center & Rays Food Service in Clackamas. She was a manager at a convience store in Groton CT. Her adult years were with Alice Ott middle school as a teachers aide and Fred Meyer as a workers comp claims administrater. After those careers she went on to be a self employed transcriptionist and her last job was as a medical transcriptionist.

Above all, Jen was a mother. She did anything and everything for her children. Reading them bedtime stories and tucking them in. Jamming out to cd’s in her big red Blazer. Laughing with them and sometimes at them. Holding their hands through difficult times. Giving them guidance and support. Giving them room to be whoever they want to be. Making sure they know, that no matter what, she would support them. Her passion was her children.

Jen was a bright spirit and all who knew her loved her and she loved them back. She never liked the nickname JENNY but tolereated it from her close family. Although she would give them grief for calling her that. “That’s not my name”

Over the last several years Jen’s favorite things to do were; vacations to Las Vegas with family & friends, having her grandkids over for the weekend & visiting her daughter and niece who live in Phoneix Arizona. She enjoyed camping & quad riding with her family & friends at places near the Oregon coast.

In 2016 Jennifer was diagnosed with a rare disease CIDP which is a rare disorder of the peripheral nerves characterized by gradually increasing sensory loss and weakness associated with loss of reflexes. After this she was unable to go back to work.

A quote she found inspiring when in thearpy upon her initial diagnosis…

Be gentle with yourself,
You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
~Max Ehrmann
