James Oliver! I would hear his Mother exclaim, when she wanted him to get the dishes done or walk down to the Cowiche Market to get something she needed. At work, he was often referred to as J.O, and at church it was just Jim. He was my second cousin, but we related more like brothers. For many years his family and mine shared most holidays around the table. He and Carolyn attended the church of which I was pastor in Yakima, Washington for a decade before he retired and moved to Portland to be closer to Suzanne. Both were faithful supporters in every possible way and in his quiet way he welcomed members at the door and went about doing maintenance which sometimes, only he had seen. Many special nights we sat side my side in recliners in his family room, watching the residents of Mayberry interact around Andy Griffith. After their move to Portland, they hosted Sharon and I on more nights than I could count. He had a sharp mind to the end and loved to keep up to date on the latest new items on his computer. Safe to say, I loved him, and will miss him greatly.

I came to know Jim better following his marriage to Carolyn who was a high school classmate of mine. All of our friends are special but Jim took being special to a higher level than most. For one thing he married an Angel which made him far brighter than most. His spirit deserved being matched for over a half century with an Angel here on Earth.

Worked with Jim for many years at Platt and knew him before. He was a man of great integrity. Always a positive attitude and a joy to be around. He is and will be missed. RIP

My fondest memory of Jim was his sweet smile. He was always the same sweet, kind, gentle natured man no matter the day. I have such good memories of being with the family and Jim seemed to be the easiest to please. What stands out in my mind was how he always went with the flow. Such a wonderful family man. I’m blessed to have had the opportunity to know and love him. Such a wonderful Man Of God. He will be missed.
