January 1, 1970 - January 1, 1970 Share your Memorial with Family & Friends James grew up in Waco, Texas and picked cotton alongside his other family members in western Texas. He attended a three room segregated school. Known as Solomon School, and later attended Olivette and Moore high school there. During the war James registered for the draft in November 8th of 1943 and was honorably discharged April 21st of 1946. After the war he joined his family who were now living in Vanport, Oregon. James and his family survived the Vanport flood of 1948. James loved the Lord and joined the church at an early age. There he met and married the love of his life Jettie Lee Holmes. James and Jettie married in 1952. James continued to serve in the church becoming Chairman of the board of deacons, and performing custodial work for the church. He was known for his beautiful singing voice in the church and local community. He joined the church formerly known as Mt. Sinai Church of God in Christ, now New Freedom Assembly (Dates joined 1975 ‰ÛÒ 2016) He was preceded in death by his loving parents; Ocie and Lena Mack, his wife Jettie Lee Holmes, brothers Nolan Mack, Ferrell Mack and his twin Brother John Mack; one sister Opal Mae White, nieces; Ophelia Guinn, Bettye Coppage, nephews Nathaniel Logan Jr. and Dwight (Ricky) A. Mack, Charles (Buster) Mack. His siblings who died in their youth were; Ocie Jr., Esther and Alice Mack. He leaves to celebrate his beautiful life; his daughter Beverly E. Chambers, grandson Gary Burks Jr. (Heather), great-granddaughter Layla Jettie Burks, sister-in-law Susie Mack (Lewis), and nieces and nephews; Ronald White, Carolyn Mays, Nolan Mack Jr., Ferrell (Celest) Michael Mack, Larry & Susan Glenn, Myra Beard, Dan and Wanda Brewster, George and Danise Elijah and many other relatives and friends we could not mention here. He was a positive gracious man who changed all who met him. After James’s brother Ferrell passed away, James moved around a lot staying with some family members and then moved to Park Forest Care Center where James made strong friendships with staff and his roommate, Terrel Perkins.James Mack
He served as a Deacon on the Deacon’s board up until 2002 when he was elevated to chairman of the Deacon’s board for such faithful service, committed when he was called home by his Father God Almighty from his duties. A job well done.
