Hilary Vesta Meade

September 21, 1974 – March 12, 2024

Hilary left us after a long battle with diabetes, which she fought each and every day with strength, courage and the heart of a warrior.

Hilary was the cherished daughter of Susan Hively and the late Michael Meade and was the much beloved granddaughter of Vesta Barnes and Charles Hively as well as her grandfather-in-law Frank Mattaino.

She is survived by her son, Justin Furness, daughter Camille Thomas and siblings Amy Meade, Jane Meade, and Christopher Meade.

Hilary loved all living things, both two and four legged, finding joy in communications with friends and neighbors and companionship with furry pals Bruno and Sasha while always remembering the mighty Brutus. Hilary was also an avid gardener, taking solace in tending her plants, researching new ones and planning a rock garden, which will be completed in her name.

The family would like to express our gratitude to the medical professionals who made daily life possible for Hilary, Dr. Brinton Clark for years of outstanding care and unfailing compassion. Tim Fragall RN, who Hilary regarded as family although his weekly visits were a medical necessity, Carlos Lewis of Oregon Artifcial Limb who, with great skill and expertise supported Hilary through an incredibly difficult time.

She will be remembered in our hearts and in fields of sunfowers, endless waves and the sighing of the sea.

A memorial service will be held at a future date.
