December 31, 1947 - June 6, 2022 Share your Memorial with Family & Friends 2nd Lieutenant Gregory Allen Herbst, 74, returned to his heavenly home on June 6, 2022 after a long battle with congenital heart and kidney failure. His devotion to family and firm belief in HIS Heavenly Father, provided support during his medical battles and ultimately gave him peace. Gregory was born to the late Joseph Clarence “Red” Herbst and Violet Eva Herbst of Louisville, Kentucky on December 31st, 1947. He spent his childhood years in Louisville, was a graduate of Trinity High School and attended Bellarmine University of Louisville, Kentucky. Gregory went on to serve his country in the United States Army. Beginning his service at Fort Knox (Kentucky), he moved onto Fort Sam (Texas), and finally based at Fort Benning (Georgia). His love for sport, namely Baseball, led him to travel with his brother, Kevin Herbst, as Sales Representatives for the majority of all Northwest Minor League Baseball Teams. These teams included Portland Beavers, Portland/Bend Rockies, Eugene EMS, Salem Keizer Volcanoes, Helena Brewers, Tri-City Dust Devils, Yakima Bears and several other minor league teams. During the same time, the Herbst Brother Duo worked for the Portland Winterhawks in various capacities for many years. He is survived by his son Joseph and Jennifer Herbst, his daughter Kristen Herbst, bonus son Darren and Hillary Lamont, plus four beautiful grandchildren and his brother Kevin Herbst. Our sincerest gratitude goes out to the administration and staff at the Portland VA Medical Center, Avamere in Clackamas, and the Omega Funeral Home Service for their ongoing support when Gregory was in their care. A memorial service will be held at Willamette National Cemetery on Thursday, June 23rd, 2022 at 1:00pm. Reception will be held following the ceremony at Joseph and Jennifer Herbst home, 15076 Hiltonhead Court, Oregon City OR 97045. Gregory A. Herbst
