March 24, 1956 - March 26, 2025 Share your Memorial with Family & Friends “To me, every hour of the light and dark is a miracle” – Walt Whitman Geowiannio Ricardo Presley-Brooks passed away peacefully on March 26th, 2025, just two days after celebrating his 69th birthday – with the love of his friends surrounding him. Geo’s life was marked by curiosity, kindness, and an unwavering sense of humor. Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Geo was an esteemed alumnus of Phillips Academy Andover and Princeton University. With a passion for education, Geo was one of the first teachers and administrators of The Princeton Review, helping thousands of students in Atlanta and New Orleans achieve their academic dreams. He continued his career by working with public schools around the country, helping schools better assess and support marginal students. Ultimately Geo moved to Portland Oregon where he “retired” by working for the outdoors retailer REI, fulfilling his passions for the outdoors and helping people as the ultimate professional gearhead. Geo was brilliant – the rare sort of genius who would help you learn practically anything, all while making you laugh. He wouldn’t hesitate to correct your grammar mid-joke, a peculiar habit that usually was funnier than the joke itself. Geo’s sense of humor was razor-sharp but never mean-spirited, his intellect dizzying but never pompous. He loved poetry and writing, notably being first published while just a teen. But more importantly, his writing often inspired, consoled, and celebrated life with his friends. A remarkable life. Whether on a trail or in a classroom, Geo had a gift for bringing people together and making them feel seen, understood, and inspired. He believed that the world was meant to be explored, questioned, laughed at, and adored – all at once. Traveling, backpacking, cycling, music, writing, nature – these were not hobbies, they were his lifestyle and life’s passions. Those who knew Geo best will remember not only his brilliant mind and quick wit, but also his gentle spirit and quiet strength. He was, without question, one of the smartest, most charismatic, and kindest people one could hope to meet. He leaves behind a wide circle of friends, former students, fellow adventurers, and admirers who will carry his memory with deep affection and gratitude. If you asked Geo about his next journey, he’d probably smile, quote Frost, and say something about taking the road less traveled…. Geo is survived by his beloved ferret Bastian, five sisters, and countless loving friends. A celebration of his life will be held at a place and date to be announced.
