George “Dean” Walker

April 2,1933 – September 1, 2020

George “Dean” Walker of Maywood Park, Oregon, passed away after a fall and emergency surgery on September 1, 2020.

Dean was born in Portland, Oregon, on April 2, 1933, and grew up in Silverton, Oregon.  Dean graduated from Silverton High School, then attended the University of Oregon, before enlisting in the U.S. Army.  Dean joined the Army just before the Korean War ended in 1953 and was stationed in Germany.  Dean spent his weekend passes riding the Orient Express and exploring Europe.  Dean was honorably discharged in 1956.

Dean was married to Sigrid Mae (Sather) Walker on September 5, 1959, they were married just 4 days shy of their 61st anniversary.

Dean worked for Portland General Electric, starting out as a Meter Reader, and working his way up to the Customer Service Department, retiring after 39 years of service.

Dean was an avid bowler, beginning in high school, during his time in Germany, and when back in the U.S.  He participated in many different bowling leagues where his teammates fondly referred to him as Deano.  Dean also coached his daughters in little league softball for many years and would umpire in a pinch.  He was a Green Bay Packers Fan, loved classic cars, enjoyed salmon fishing, was a voracious reader, and had a wonderful sense of humor.

Dean is survived by his wife Sigrid Mae (Sather) Walker; his two daughters, Kelly Lynn Walker, Jennifer Ann (Walker) Hurlburt; his son-in-law Douglas Kevin Hurlburt; his three grandchildren, Bailee Marie Walker, Maxwell Dean McGee Bennett, MacKenzie Taylor Hurlburt; his brother-in-law Richard Charles Sather; his sister-in-law Nikki Sather; and his nephews and niece.

Dean is preceded in death by his parents, George Charles Walker and Clarice Eleanor (Bergland) Walker.

Dean did not wish to have a funeral service and will be buried at Miller Cemetery in Silverton, Oregon, where he will rest peacefully with his father and mother and aunts and uncles.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Edwards Center, PO Box 6269, Aloha, OR 97007-0269 or https://edwardscenter.org/donate/donate.html.  The family of Dean Walker would like to thank Oregon Health & Science University Hospital for their care of, and compassion for, Dean while in the hospital.

We will miss you Dad, we love you.
