Cornett (1965-2025) “Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.” – Pablo Picasso Lover of art, architecture, traveling to England and a prolific runner who completed 60 marathons. George D. Cornett, age 59, of Portland, Oregon, passed away March 10, 2025, in Portland, Oregon of natural causes. He was born on July 5, 1965, in San Diego, California to Jack Cornett and Gail Cornett (nee McNutt) and spent his childhood frequently moving, being in a military family. After graduating from Channel Islands High School in Oxnard, California in 1983, George went on to study Political Science at Humboldt State University, graduating in 1987 with a Bachelor of Arts. He then moved into finance and budget, working for both private and government agencies throughout his career. He was a collector of collections who had a curator’s sensibility. George visited museums all over the United States and Europe and purchased a postcard for every significant piece of art he saw in person. At the time of his passing, George had collected over 10,000 thousand postcards, all of them logged and placed in specific order in special wooden boxes prominently displayed in his home. Whether connected to their college experiences at Humboldt, traveling, running, or just spending time together, George’s friends were devoted to him. George was also dedicated to his family, spending as much time with them as he was able. We could not have asked for a better son and sibling and will miss him every day. His memory will live on in our hearts. George was preceded in death by his father Jack and is survived by his mother Gail, sister Liberty, brothers Todd and Joseph as well as his stepmother Tricia, stepbrothers Jason and Justin and stepsister Talitha.
