Your presence is felt in every room of the house. So hard to believe you won't be walking thru the door. I miss you so much. Gene, Jani and I became friends in 1966 at Salem Academy. I had never played football before going to SA but was drafted by Coach Allen in the hallway between classes. That led me to meeting Gene and our friendship began. I met Jani through Gene. I remember driving Jani’s dad’s ‘62 or ‘63 Chevy ex-police car with the 7’ antenna whipping through the breeze as I shifted the three on the tree to put that 348 engine through its paces. Trough the years we lost contact but connected again quite a few years ago. This was a friendship that has held on for overt- years, a lifetime. Gene and Jani have always prayed for me and my struggles as I have for theirs.Mine were mainly spiritual and theirs were for the most part for good health and strength for their family. I will miss Gene tremendously. His faith carried my through my lack of faith. I will still keep in touch with you, Jani. We will continue our friendship as before. You are still valued in my life. I’m praying for God’s strength to carry you through this terrible loss. God bless you all. We’ll meet again soon enough.

I have very great memories of Gene from West Salem Baptist Church when he and Jan were youth leaders. We had a great time seeing how many kids we could put in their MG convertible Also Gene played softball for the church team that my dad Don Haley coached great times. He can now play softball in heaven with other team member that are there. He and Jan were great role models to many of us.
