Esther Rose Klein

August 8, 1925 – April 2, 2020

Esther passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on April 2, 2020.

She was the tenth of twelve children born to Joseph and Rosalina Jaksha on the family farm east of The Dalles, Oregon on August 8, 1925. She spent her childhood working on the farm. After high school she moved to Portland, Oregon where she worked at the TikTok restaurant and Dorenbecker furniture factory where she met her “Sweet Baby” the love of her life, Harold Klein.

They were married in St. Charles Catholic church in Portland on June 21, 1947. They later started a family adding four beautiful children. When she wasn’t taking care of her family Esther worked at St. Charles church with the Altar Society, the annual spaghetti dinner, as well as making numerous quilts, baked goods and countless sewn and knitted things to sell as fundraisers for the church. Later she started making neck pillows for the Veterans Home.

Harold and Esther loved to dance and spent just about every weekend dancing until late at night. In her later years Esther loved to embroider pillow cases, and color books, Jumble puzzles and became so good at solving them, she could just look at the scrambled word and instantly tell what it was.

Esther is preceded in death by her, “Sweet Baby” Harold Klein as well as her eleven brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her four children, Steve Klein(Liz), David Klein(Kari), Rose Schulz and Bruce Klein(Angela) as well as nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren who will greatly miss her.

Graveside service was held with just her immediate family August 10, 2020.

Because of the corona virus, a memorial service is planned for next year.
