Esther Ione Schlegel (Reznicsek)

August 27, 1929 – August 15, 2024

Esther Ione Schlegel (Reznicsek) was born in Hubbard, Oregon on August 27, 1929, to Mary and Raphael Reznicsek. She died on August 15, 2024, a couple weeks shy of her 95th birthday. She spent much of her youth in Neskowin and graduated from Nestucca Union High. In 1955 she married Edward Carl Mader. Together they had three daughters before divorcing after 29 years of marriage. In 2007, she married Gene Schlegel, who she knew for many years through Portland Christian Center.

Esther held several jobs throughout her life including working for the State of Oregon, an Avon lady and working at a radiology billing office. She volunteered at Adventist Medical Center and Meals on Wheels.

Esther was preceded in death by her husband Gene, parents, brother Elmer, and her sisters, Ruth, Marie, and Verona. She is survived by her three daughters, Shannon Muse (Greg), Shelley Doherty (Kevin), Julie Longenecker (Scott), 6 granddaughters and 5 great grandchildren.

Esther’s family thanks the wonderful care givers at Huntington Terrace Assisted Living and the dedicated hospice team from Housecall Providers.
No service will be held, but the family will have private celebration of life.
