June 28, 1974 - June 15, 2016 Share your Memorial with Family & Friends June 28, 1974 to June 15, 2016 Erin lost her hard fought battle with reoccurring breast cancer on June 15, 2016 at 3:41 pm. She was surrounded by family, friends and loved ones at the time of her passing. We are all honored that we could be there with her to share the final leg of her journey. Erin was born on June 28, 1974 at 11:19 pm at Woodlawn Park Hospital in Portland, OR to Patricia A. (Walton) and James W. Thornbrugh. She joined her older siblings, Wende and Eric. Erin was an easy going baby probably because she was saving her energy for childhood. Before Erin’s third birthday, her mom and James divorced. So it was mom and the three kids for many years. The family shared a house with Erin’s Grandma and Papoo (Greek for grandfather) as well as her Aunt Kathy. The family was close knit and active. Erin took swimming lessons and gymnastics at the NE YMCA. She was a Bluebird and later a Camp Fire Girl and her mom was the leader. She played soccer and exhibited a great deal of energy. She was a midfielder and pleased that she had the run of the field. Obviously, she was also fast. At a later age she was Worthy Advisor for her Rainbow Group, Martha Washington No. 1. She went on to become a Grand Sargeant at Arms for the state Rainbow organization. She was a member of the youth group at Faith Lutheran church. In all these organizations, she became friends with others and they have kept in touch over the years. Erin looked forward to summer camp every year. She attended Camp Arrah Wanna and Camp Namanu. She always had a good time. She attended Belmont Preschool (now Belmont Academy) through kindergarten. Erin and her mother often walked to preschool. For first grade through fifth grade, Erin attended Laurelhurst Elementary School. She then moved to Fernwood Middle School for one year and finished middle school at Gregory Heights Middle School. Erin attended Grant High School where she made a name for herself as a distance runner. She was Portland city champion in cross country in her junior year. For a short time, Erin was enrolled at Eastern Oregon College in LaGrande. She had a good time and made many friends. When Erin returned to Portland, she worked several temporary positions including a time at US Bank, NOW Software and other companies. Erin decided to move to Atlanta, Georgia and while there began working for The Gap. She was made an assistant manager before she transferred back to Portland. Erin continued to work for The Gap in the Portland area and made many new friends there with which she has continued to remain in touch. In 2005 she began working for Wilshire Credit Corporation (now Seterus, an IBM subsidiary). She acquired new skill sets and transferred to IBM where she was a Project Manager for Financial Services products. This was the job she held when her breast cancer reoccurred. On April 1, 2001, Erin married David Cobb in Las Vegas. She had two children as a result of this marriage (London-14 and Gavin-12). She divorced David in 2004. In 2007 Erin married Andrew Miller. They were parents to Pippin who is now 7. Erin has always exhibited artistic talent. However she has become known by family and friends for her beautiful photography, elaborate Halloween costumes, zest for celebration, and numerous craft projects. After her first bout with cancer, she and her family celebrated crazy national holidays every day of the year for an entire year. They had so much fun with this. She liked to camp and looked forward to the families annual Camp Chaos at Lost Lake. This has always been a time to enjoy her immediate and extended family as well as close friends that are just like family. During these weekends, she could often be found teasing someone or engaging in some type of banter. Erin, her sister, Wende, and her mom, Patty, all anticipated Christmas Bazaars and the annual Portland Yarn Crawl. This was a time for the girls to spend time together, shop and have lunch. What could be better? The trio also liked on occasion to visit antique stores. She had many collections and liked competitive games. Her family owns many board games and loved to have family games nights often. During the weeks prior to passing, Erin enjoyed spending time with her family and friends playing games, knitting, and watching movies with her friends and family. She cherished every minute of time she was able to spend «as a family» with her loved ones.
