Edward Philip Bourg

November 7th, 1934 – May 27th, 2025

Edward Philip Bourg of Gresham, Oregon passed away from congestive heart failure at age 90 on May 27th, 2025. He died at his home and was surrounded by his loving wife and three children.

Edward was born in Portland, Oregon on November 7th, 1934, to Edward N. Bourg and Aurelia K. (Dolan) Bourg. Ed grew up in the Montavilla area and worked at the family-owned slaughterhouse. He attended Vestal Elementary School (against his Catholic parents’ wishes)! He graduated from Central Catholic High School and continued on to graduate from University of Portland with a bachelor’s degree in business.

Edward was married to Helen Joyce Dieringer on November 19th, 1955, in St. Ignatius Catholic Church. They were married just shy of 70 years! Together they had four children, Matthew Edward, Jan Marie, Jeffery Philip, and Nicki Ann.

Ed worked at Phizer, Corn Products, co-owned ETCO Plumbing, and went on to contracting and building several custom homes, apartments, condominiums, and dental offices. He belonged in several bowling leagues and bowled for many years with his wife and friends. He enjoyed playing Snooker on his table at home and played weekly throughout his life with many friends. Ed loved to play Cribbage and was truly the “Master”!

Ed was an amazing water-skier and skied until he was 71 years old! He loved boating, camping, and motorcycle riding with his family and friends. He also had a passion for Ford Mustangs and owned and restored several beautiful cars. He was still driving his beloved 2016 Mustang GT at the age of 90! No Cadillac for him!!

Edward had a few mottos he would tell people (especially his kids and grandkids) ….. Always treat others how you want to be treated.

Edward is survived by his loving wife Helen Joyce (Dieringer) Bourg and his three children Matthew E. Bourg (and wife Cynthia), Jan M. Smith (and husband Stephen) , Nicki A. Schaffer (and husband Korey), ten grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.

Edward is preceded in death by his parents Edward N. Bourg and Aurelia K. Bourg, his sister Delores (Bourg) Elliott, and his son Jeffrey P. Bourg.

A private Mass will be held at Central Catholic High School for immediate family only.
