November 11, 1952 - March 14, 2022 Share your Memorial with Family & Friends Douglas “Doug” Hurley Nelson, passed away on March 14, 2022 while living in Ontario, Oregon. He was born to Donald and Doris Nelson on November 11, 1952, in Hood River, Oregon. Doug was later blessed with three brothers, Russell (Rhonda), Cale and Lane, as well as two sisters, Lori (Tom) and Lynai (Dan). Doug was preceded in death by both of his parents and his brother Russell. As a child and young man, Doug moved frequently with his family as his father was serving in the US Air Force. Then when Doug was18, he married his first love, Sherry. They were married for 8 years but did not have children. He re-married many years later to Jeannie. When they had been married for a couple of years, they had a son, Donald, “Donnie”, named after Doug’s father whom he lost in 1998. Doug and Jeannie divorced a few years later and he never re-married. Growing up, and until his death, Doug had a profound love for anything music. He played the guitar, 12 and 6 string, as well as the Bass guitar. While he was a young adult, he was most happy when playing music with his father and younger brother, Cale. They had a band called Country Spice and during their performances, their smiles were contagious and their voices, perfection. Doug’s other love was his Military Service in the United States Army. He served his country for almost 22 years. Doug received an Honorable discharge in September 1992. During his military service he had been awarded the Expert Qualification Badge Rifle M16, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Good Conduct Award- 5 times, National Defense Service Medal- 2 times, Overseas Service Ribbon- 2 times, as well as the Southwest Asia Service Medal. Doug was very proud to have followed in his father’s 21 year military service footsteps and to serve his country. Doug was dedicated and proud of his military service, as was his family. Doug was blessed with a very special sense of humor… Sometimes, you really just had to know him to get his humor! Doug was greatly loved by those close to him and was thought highly of by those who knew him. Doug will be missed by his family members and those who were close to him during his life. May he rest in Peace. Hope you’re making music with Dad again! Thank you for your service big brother!
