November 8, 1954 - June 11, 2025 Share your Memorial with Family & Friends The mesmerizing vastness of the ocean, his dogs frolicking in the sand, the glow of the fireplace quietly ending the day. Now, that’s David on vacation. The outdoors; hiking and biking mountains and seeking out the perfect B&B for the holidays. His love for the Pacific Northwest was a pervasive theme to his life. David was born into the loving arms of Kenneth and Jocelyn Rhein. They owned and operated a dairy farm in Brownsville, Wi. Three siblings awaited his arrival and eagerly shared the ins and outs of the farm because, after all, it wouldn’t be long before he could feed the cats and pull weeds. His passion for animals developed early on and enabled him to master dog handling skills. He spent his childhood involved in 4-H projects and participating in all the aspects of farm life. David was overjoyed with the birth of his younger brother Jeff. Now he was the “big kid” and they bonded . They did everything together, even after graduating from high school, working the oil rigs in New Orleans. David‘s love of adventure took him to Oregon and there he met the love of his life Karen. They married in 1989 and settled in Portland to pursue a career in Real Estate. He began his career with Stan Wiley and retired from Keller Williams, Portland Central in 2023. David’s engaging personality and his willingness to listen will be treasured by his nieces and nephews. Friends in Brownsville and Portland will also recall his extraordinary people skills. His culinary efforts showcased his specialties of BBQ salmon and brats. His wife Karen, step-daughters Kristine and Amy, and granddaughters Kara and Taylor are left to cherish his legacy of love. He is also survived by his sister Beth, sisters-in laws Rebecca Mavis, Mary Rhein, Kathy Travanty and brother-in law Bill Nelson. David was predeceased by his parents and siblings; Judy, Chuck and Jeff and brothers-in- law Jack Johnson and Bill Mavis. A Celebration of David’s Life will be held Wednesday, July 30, 2025, 12-2:30pm at Tabor Tavern, 5325 E Burnside, Portland OR. Visitation to start at 12pm. Beverages will be served following a memory sharing time. A memorial fund will be established.
