Cindy was born on February 5, 1963 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Astoria, Oregon to William Richard and Janice Lee Tennant.  .  She lived in Astoria until 1968, at which time her family relocated to Portland, Oregon.  She attended Laurelhurst Elementary School and Washington High School, graduating from Washington-Monroe in 1981.  Following high school, she attended Portland State University where she discovered her true calling and her passion – acting.  In her own words, “once I started the scene, the world fell away”.

 

She loved performing, but improvisation was her gift and her forte’.  During her career, she performed with Waggie and Friends, Raging Hormones, and Portland Area Theatersports.  Her litany of productions  includes “Sister May Ignatius Explains it all for you”, “A Murder is Announced”, and “Cloud Nine”, just to name a few.  She also wrote, directed and performed in “Misguided Lives”, as well as a number of productions she wrote and performed – “the Story of Mindy” and “Dancing with the Moon”.  Her more recent productions include a one woman show at “Scratch PDX” in 2010, “Cindy Tennant and Her Magic Boobs” in 2011, and “Dangerous Curves Ahead” in 2012.  But there are many more.

 

It is very easy to cite facts and dates, but it is harder to define in a few words who Cindy really was.  Cindy was loving and giving.  I don’t think there is a person she met or interacted with that doesn’t remember her or would not say that they came away from her feeling better than when they started.  She touched so many over the course of her much too short life, and every one of us is all the better for knowing her.  Cindy’s true gift to all of us was laughter.  As you read this, please remember the laughter, remember how she touched your life.  And why your life is the better for it.

 

Cindy is survived by her cats Callie, Marshmallow and Chummie .  Through very kind friends, her cats will continue to live out their lives “as kings”.

 

Cindy is and has been much loved by many.  Her family – her mother Jan, her sister Brenda and her brother Brian, the bestest brother in the whole world, her nephews Michael, Tommy and Danny, will miss her every day.
