Clifford Louis Martin was born on August 4, 1940 in International Falls, Minnesota to Henry T Martin and Mary Francis Oppel who both preceded him in death. The family moved from Minnesota to Oregon in the 1940’s and eventually settled in the Portland area. He attended OckleyGreen middle school and later graduated from Jefferson High School in 1958. After graduation he joined the United States Air Force where he served as a fireman, following training at Lackland AFB. He was then stationed at a base in Arizona. Upon discharge from the Air Force he became a Longshoreman at the Port of Vancouver where he served for 42 years. He was a member of ILWU local 4.
Cliff was a black belt in Karate and used to teach classes out of his home in the basement. One of his most beloved hobbies was woodworking. He loved crafting furniture and model ships in particular. He loved football‰Û_ University of Oregon football that is! An avid duck fan, he never missed a game!
In 1959 he met Rose Mueller (Hackett) whom he spent the next 13 years of his life with. Together they had 2 children, Dean Martin and Jeanne Martin-Leason.
After retirement he resided at the Oregon coast, later to relocate to Oregon City. With worsening health he moved into The Springs at Clackamas woods until his death on March 10, 2016 at age 75.
Cliff is survived by his son Dean (Laura), and daughter Jeanne. Two granddaughters; Shelby Martin and Mandy Brown. His brother Richard Henry Martin and sister Sharron Evens. Five nieces and nephews, several cousins in Newport, Oregon along with his beloved Rosie.
A memorial service will be held on March 19, 2016 at 1:00pm at Omega Funeral and Cremation Service located at 223 SE 122nd Ave, Portland Oregon 97233. Inurnment will be at Willamette National Cemetery.
