Christine M. Murray

November 6, 1960 – October 17, 2021

Christine M. Murray passed away on Sunday, October 17, 2021 while surrounded by those she loved. Chris was born in Toledo, OH on November 6, 1960, to Denny and Gerry Harloff. She graduated from Start High School while living in Toledo.

Chris spent six years in the San Jose, CA area in the 1980’s where she earned an Associated Degree in Family Studies.  In 1990, she moved with her family to Beaverton, OR.  She continued her education at Portland State University earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Child and Family Studies and a Master of Social Work Degree.

Chris was a stay-at-home mother for many years taking care of her daughter, Beth and son, Steve. During this time, she was very involved in volunteer work with the Washington County Commission on Children and Families and the Washington County Behavioral Health Council.

Chris had a love for children, especially those with special needs or affected by domestic abuse.  After her own children were grown, she worked at Washington County Department of Human Services, Morrison Child and Family Services and with the Oregon Partnership’s National Suicide Hotline.  Recently, she worked as an Educational Assistant at Multnomah County ESD and enjoyed volunteering at My Father’s House in Gresham, OR.

Chris loved to make people happy and had a special gift of making those she met feel loved and welcome. She will be deeply missed by the many whose lives she touched.

She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth (Patrick) Refsnider of Livermore, CA; son, Stephen of Beaverton, OR; brothers, Dave, Tim and Doug Harloff, all of Toledo, OH. Also surviving are her father, Denny Bradley of Maumee, OH; aunts, Jeanne (Dutch) Gottschalk and Cheryl Willis Clifton both of Fountain Hills, AZ and uncle, Steve (Jane) Harloff of Yamhill, OR.

Chris’s last days were blessed by the loving care of Candie Aaby, Erika “The Great” Eason, Liz Jensvold and Paul Schwarz. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for all of their love, kindness and compassion.

Friends may call at Omega Funeral and Cremation Service, 223 SE 122nd Ave., Portland, OR on Thursday, October 21 from 12 noon to 4 pm for viewing/visitation.  A celebration of Chris’ life will follow at her house. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to My Father’s House, 5003 Powell Blvd., Gresham OR, 97030.
