Share your Memorial with Family & Friends

I grew up until age 12 down the street from Bev and her family. Her daughter Jayne was my best friend so I spent a lot of time at their house. Bev was my Campfire Girls leader and always made things fun and interesting. I remember picking strawberries (for money) with her and the kids along with my mom and siblings. Bev was the fastest berry picker I have ever seen! I also was lucky enough to spend time at their house at Cannon Beach. It was brightly decorated which was just like Bev’s spirit. Bright and cheery, always smiling. We moved after sixth grade so I didn’t see her much after that but I was very happy when she was able to attend my dad’s 60th birthday celebration. She was a wonderful woman who is deeply missed by many. I feel honored to have known her.

If Baptists declared specific people to be saints, Bev Simmons would be on the fast track for canonization. I have spent my entire life around self-identified Christians and church folk and more than forty years in church leadership, and I have never known a more caring, forgiving, uplifting, engaged and multi-talented person than Bev Simmons. She blessed my life immeasurably, and the lives of uncounted others, including -- but not limited to -- generations of children and youth at First Baptist Church, Portland. This world is a richer place for having hosted Bev Simmons for a while. In love and appreciation, Dr. David Wheeler

It is difficult for me to find adequate words to express my gratitude, admiration and affection, that I feel for one of the most beautiful persons I have ever known. That together with her whole family, I was given a home when I came to this country all alone, more than 45 years ago. Mom - as I affectionately called Bev - was the epitome of joy; and her happiness always blossomed with her eternal smile. And yet, she was not lacking in character. It was enough for her to get serious saying something, to quickly understand that she was in command. And I loved to share stories with her about my times in Portland because we could laugh every time of the same story. She had wit; and her sense of humor was quick and sharp. I loved it. That's why I celebrate the life of one of my favorite and most beloved characters; and I will always miss her. I wish she is comfortable in the arms of God, resting in peace and with a big smile in her face. Love you Mom...

During my time as a State surveyor I saw Bev several times. I so appreciated her love of the residents under her care. I also loved the joy she brought to the facility with her celebration of events. I especially recall visiting the facility around Halloween, and the fun she brought to the residents and staff. She ensured not only quality of care but maybe more importantly, quality of life. Thank you Bev for all you did. Sharon
