Bernadette (Bernie) Kimmons

June 1, 1930 – February 25, 2022

Bernadette (Bernie) Kimmons was born June 1, 1930 in Glencross, North Dakota to Fred and Agatha Wangler.  She was the 5th of 7 daughters. She married Earl (Kim) Kimmons in 1950 and later divorced in 1962. They had 4 children Jim (Suzie), Debbi Grubbs (Skip), Karen Miller and Cindy Ramsey. They purchased their home on Portsmouth Avenue in 1956 where she raised her family and welcomed many others until her passing on February 25, 2022 at the age of 91.

In 1971 she married Richard Brown.  They later divorced. Bernie worked 40+ years at Earl Schieb’s Auto Shop and was a member of Teamster’s local 305, retiring at age 70. Family was her everything, from holiday celebrations to having her grandchildren, great grandchildren and their friends over every weekend. Their big event was the annual New Year’s Eve Party. During family visits she instilled the need of good manners, work ethic and tidiness.

Though small in stature she was a spitfire with a wicked sense of humor and a charitable heart. Teaching us that the smallest act of kindness had the ability to change people’s lives. She firmly believed that you remained family regardless of any situation. She loved reading, doing crossword puzzles, playing cards, watching sports and gardening. She always kept up on the latest fashion trends by her years of riding buses. Even dying her hair purple a few times.

In 2008 a stroke changed her world and ours, only occasionally allowing her true self to shine.

Bernie is survived by her sister Ester Hoelscher; her 4 children; 7 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and 2 great, great grandchildren.

Even though she’s gone from us, our memories of her will provide us comfort.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday June 4, 2022 at Blue Lake Park (Shahala Shelter) in Fairview, OR. CLICK HERE FOR DIRECTIONS.
