Barbara Helen Delaney (Comstock)

July 13, 1934 – March 4, 2023

Barbara Helen Delaney (Comstock) passed away peacefully at her home in Vancouver Washington on March 4th, 2023 of natural causes after a brief illness that was heart related. She was 88 years old. Barbara was born July 13th, 1934, in Portland Oregon to John and Helen Comstock and grew up with her three sisters: Mary Lou, Helen and Kathleen in Southeast Portland. She was a lifelong Portland resident until moving to her daughter Cathy’s house in Vancouver 3 years ago.

Barbara attended Franklin High School, graduating in 1952. Soon after, she met and fell in love with “The love of her life” James Joseph Delaney. They were married on February 20th, 1954, and were married for 62 years until Jim’s passing in 2016. It wasn’t long until Barbara and Jim started their family with 4 children. First, Sharon in 1955, followed by Jimmy in 1956, Cathy in 1960, and John in 1962. Life in the Delaney household was always busy and exciting. With camping trips to Oxbow, weeks spent at the beach in summer, vacations and family reunions in places like Reno, Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, Bandon, Disneyland and too many other places to name.

She loved her family and instilled in them the values she lived by, honesty, integrity, caring for others, being a good listener and conversationalist. She was always up to date on current events, politics, Hollywood gossip, sports, and crime stories/trials. She could talk to you about anything going on in the world. She was a meticulous record keeper and could tell you what happened on what day, who she’d talked to, whose birthday or anniversary it was, anything.
Barbara suffered 3 huge losses in her 76th street family, the loss of her daughter Sharon, her son John, and her beloved husband Jim. Through all this tragedy she kept her faith, and made sure everyone else in the family was taken care of and okay. Some of the things that gave her great joy were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Things that really made her happy were A cold beer happy hour, Casino Slot machines, Bingo, the Dog races, Portland Trailblazers, the shopping channel, and any music performed and sung by Andrea Bocelli.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Sharon, her son John, her husband Jim, and her sisters Mary Lou and Kathleen. She is survived by her son Jimmy, her daughter Cathy, 5 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren.

Memorial Celebration of Life Services will be held at Omega Funeral & Cremation Service, April 6, 2023, 1:00 pm, 223 SE 122nd Avenue, Portland, Oregon.
