ANNIE LONGSTROTH TYCKSEN

Annie Longstroth Tycksen completed her journey to heaven on October 13, 2018. Annie was born June 26, 1936, the oldest of four, to Granger and Margaret Longstroth. She grew up in southern Idaho and graduated from Greenleaf Friends Academy in 1954. After highschool, she worked a while before attending George Fox College. She met the love of her life, Earl Tycksen, as they co-directed a play for Homecoming. They became engaged within months and were married September 26, 1959 at Whitney Friends Church in Boise, ID.

When Annie was asked what she did for a living, her response was thoughtful; “I am first a pastor’s wife, a mother, and I have worked in many different offices.” Annie remained sharp minded until her final days even as her physical body declined around her.
Annie and Earl valued family and relationships much in their life of ministry. They gladly welcomed daughter Lynette while pastoring in La Junta, Colorado and then their son Mike while living in Jerome, Idaho. The next move to Meridian, Idaho expanded their church family and added six Vietnamese sons in 1975. Hoa Dong lived with her family while earning his college degree. Other ‘sons’ settled throughout the U.S, and maintain contact even today.
Annie also called herself the “Rinard Family Scribe” and enjoyed maintaining contact with extended family members and organizing family reunions until recent years.

After ministry in Meridian, ID, Silverton, OR, Spokane, WA, and Nampa, ID, Annie and Earl moved to Newberg, OR to “retire”, and eventually made their home at Friendsview Retirement Community. Their relational impact was evident as many residents recall their warm welcome to Friendsview from Annie and Earl.
Annie enjoyed involvement in many church and Friendsview communities throughout her life. She enjoyed typing Earl’s sermons and working or volunteering as church secretary over the years. While in ID, she worked many years in the business office of St. Luke’s Hospital; in Silverton, OR, she enjoyed a job at the business office at the Mt. Angel Abbey. She volunteered as a SMART reader at a local school in Newberg, and proofreading and dining service committees while living at Friendsview. Even in her last months she impacted many of her health care providers as she inquired about their lives and expressed her care and appreciation for them.

 
Surviving Annie are her daughter Lynette Cortez of Silverton, OR; son Mike (Amy) Tycksen of Richland, WA; and Hoa (Lori Nguyen) Dong of Renton, WA; nine grandchildren: Gabe (Annie) Cortez and great grandson Madden, Leah Cortez and Josiah Cortez; Andrew Tycksen, Jack Tycksen, and Luke Tycksen; Elizabeth (Kevin) Nguyen and great granddaughter Norah; Emily Dong, and Jonathan (Iwona) Dong.
Annie is also survived by one brother, Bruce (Sharon) Longstroth; sisters-in-law: Veva Longstroth Jencks, Ida Longstroth, and Inez (Reg) Dooney; brothers-in-law: Lyio, Frank (Shirley), Fred, Ken (Rosa), and Les Tycksen; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends who will remember her and mourn her passing.

Memorial gifts may be given to Greenleaf Friends Academy, or Friendsview Retirement
Community Pastoral Assistance Fund. Celebration of Life services are scheduled for January 3,
2019 at West Chehalem Friends Church in Newberg, OR at 2:00 p.m.
