Andy transformed my life and many others in manifest ways: His passion to help those less fortunate, his thoughtfulness towards friends, his selfless sharing, his intellectual curiosity and dedication learning and so much more. All those who knew him could not help but be changed for good. He lives within each of us as we strive to be just a bit more true to the values he embraced.

Andy was a true visionary and through his commitment to helping others, thousands of men and women have been able to transform their lives through housing, supportive services and jobs. I am honored and blessed to be able to continue the legacy Andy began over 32 years ago. Andy built a solid foundation and I am proud to say we continue to build upon that foundation each and every day. Today, SRO Housing Corporation has 30 properties that provide over 2,400 units of housing. This would not have been possible without Andy and we are forever grateful! Andy's memory will live on because he gave us so much to remember. RIP Andy!

Only God knows for sure how many people Andy helped, saved, rescued, housed, reinstated, or provided for during his generous, productive life. Anyone else lost count ages ago.

Andy was one of those rare individuals who was equally at ease talking with a mayor or talking with a homeless person. He also was a great innovator, the first in the nation to use Project Based Section 8 to house homeless people in SROs at affordable rents. We miss you, Andy.

On behalf of my family but especially my father, Ken Calvin, I want to offer our condolences to Andy's family and friends. I had the pleasure to attend the memorial on Saturday and was touched to hear all the stories about Andy and his life well lived. Ken and Andy were very good friends for many many years. In my father's eyes they were best friends. But I think Andy probably had many best friends. I do know they loved each other and they loved to get together to intellectualize over a glass of wine or two. I know my Dad would have loved to share some of his stories on Saturday but was not prepared when the moment came. Just the same he came and left with much love and gratitude for Andy and the opportunity he had to remember a great friend! Best to Walter, Linda, Kitty and all of Andy's friends and loved ones!

Sorry that I will be unable to be with you today to celebrate Andy's life. Andy certainly was a love able character who always had an opinion about everything. He was warm, caring, and made a difference in so many people's lives. He was intelligent and was a visionary in so many ways in the work he did with the homeless. Andy you will be missed by so many.

Andy had one of the most generous hearts of anyone I have ever known. God bless him for everything he gave.

Andy had a bigger than life presence and spirit. Many years ago when serving to help Skid Row in Los Angeles build SRO Housing he came to New York City and spoke in the Blue Room at City Hall, telling of his successes and inspiring us to do more. I will always remember him and his commitment to those who others would prefer to forget.

I will never forget Andy! He was such an inspiration and great mentor to me. I was given an opportunity to work for SRO Housing for 25 years and to this day continue to believe in their mission to provide housing and other opportunities for the homeless. Andy was a great voice in shaping the way we see homelessness. I will miss you Andy but you will always live in my heart!

What a shame. I tried each time I came to Portland to find Andy, sent emails and letters. Somehow we never connected. . I was a founding board member of SRO Housing Corp in L A and had such admiration for his vision and commitment to the housing of the poor and homeless. May he rest in peace after a life well lived.
