May 1, 1957 - March 17, 2021 Share your Memorial with Family & Friends Allan Jay Viges was born on May 1, 1957 in Lansing, Michigan. He was the third son of four boys born to Rosanna Joyce Viges and Donald Richard Viges. The family had many happy times especially during summers up at Lake Missaukee where they had a cabin. They enjoyed playing with cousins and friends as well as swimming, sailing, and water-skiing. In high school Allan was introduced to computers for which he had a strong aptitude. A student program in data processing was the beginning of a long career of thirty-nine years with computer systems. He graduated from Waverly High School and studied at Lansing Community College. His work life began as he took jobs of being a Programmer and Analyst for the city of Lansing, followed by being a Programmer for the Lansing Board of Water and Light. He later had consulting jobs that allowed him to travel and work in various places including: Virginia, Minnesota, Canada, Texas, and Oregon. Interests in younger years included fixing cars, sailing, running, photography, and scuba diving. He assisted in many scuba dive trips and loved the beauty and wonder of undersea life. Allan was president and software engineer of his own small business AJV Corporation for sixteen years. AJV was an international supplier of point of sale and inventory management systems. He also had a career of multiple years in the electricity industry working for PacifiCorp here in Portland, Oregon. In July of 2006 he and his wife Leslie were married in Vermont amidst friends and family. They made their home in Portland and have had many wonderful years gardening, playing guitar together, camping, and enjoying the Oregon coast. Their home for many years included two beloved cats Denby and Mousie plus Ginger the dog. In 2016 Allan made a major change in life direction and began studying to become a Hospice Chaplain. He attended Concordia University followed by Starr King School of Ministry, receiving his Masters of Divinity in May 2019. After graduation Allan worked as a Hospice Chaplain at Brookdale Hospice in Wilsonville, Oregon. The last year and a half Allan has spent in and out of hospitals due to a diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He had a bone marrow transplant in June of 2020. Although he had wonderful care from doctors and support staff he was not able to recover from complications that arose. Allan is dearly missed by all who loved and knew him well. He is survived by his wife Leslie, brothers Dave (Florida) and Jim (Wisconsin) plus their wives Julie and Lilibeth, sisters in law Loring (Pennsylvania), Brita and Laurel (Maryland) along with loving aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins! Two grown twins Sarah and Alyssa were also close to his heart. Many dear friends from all around the country join us in our love for Allan.
