Albert Arne Reijonen

September 14, 1935 – August 13, 2025

 

Albert Arne Reijonen was born on September 14, 1935 in Woodland, Washington to John and Helen Ida Filla, Reijonen.

When growing up in Woodland, he spent many days with his grandmother Ina Filla in which he learned to speak and understand some Finnish.

He attended schools in Woodland and following graduation in 1954 he joined the Navy. Albert went to San Diego, California for boot camp and following was enrolled in electrical training, also in San Diego. He was assigned to the USS Deliver; a rescue and salvage ship based out of Honolulu, Hawaii.

While on duty they visited ports in North and South Korea, Japan, Midway Island and made trips to Barter Island in the Arctic in 1955 and 1957.

Albert was very proud of his service. He joined the American Legion and was a life member. He served for about 12 years with Post 1, Portland, Oregon on the Honor Guard. Albert was a life member of the VFW; he belonged to Post 1442 until it closed and then transferred to VFW Post 4248, Sellwood. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Branch #055 Portland, Oregon. For 15 years he was a volunteer at the Veterans Hospital and also worked on the ice cream committee.

He went to work for Oregon Transfer in 1961 and retired in 1992. He was a Teamster Local 162 and a member of the Retired Teamsters in Portland, Oregon.

He is survived by his son Arne Albert Reijonen (Marilyn) of Portland, brother Robert J. Reijonen, sister Esther Chambers of Woodland, WA and companion Carolynn Walker of Tigard, Oregon.
