Obituary
Pamela Anne (Hicks) Still entered this physical world on March 20, 1946. Pamela was born in Chicago, Illinois, the fourth and last of eight siblings to be born in Chicago; her remaining siblings were born in the Portland, Oregon area. Pamela passed quietly on October 18, 2026, in her hometown of Portland. Pamela was married to her surviving husband Kenneth for 61 years.
Pamela is a graduate of St. Marys Academy and spent her life supporting education for young women, especially in the STEM arena. Pamela spent decades through her non-profit business, Diverse Connections, supporting disadvantaged young women in obtaining a quality education. With dedicated support for education Pamela’s non-profit Diverse Connections further provided considerable support for animal and nature preservation. Addressing prevention of animal cruelty and destruction of our environment were high profile issues for her non-profit Diverse Connections.
Pamela’s love of nature and animals was paramount in her daily living. Nature and animals were part of her ethos; her guiding beliefs and fundamental beliefs revolved around her concern for all living things. Birds and bees were particularly important to Pamela as they are the propagators of our existence on this earth. Pamela viewed herself as a child of God and her wish was to know that she was a help to herself and to all living things. What Pamela valued most about her life was her active relationship with God (Source) and the growth and evolution of that relationship. She often quoted John Milton’s poem “On His Blindness” primary message: “true service to God does not require grand works or physical labor, but rather patient submission to His will”.
Pamela had a very strong set of values and integrity. She had a dry sense of humor and knew how to use humor to get people involved with living life. She was kind and generous with her time and attention with friends who shared similar values; her wit and sarcasm were a way of interacting with life and living life. As an SNJM Associate Pamela lived the core values of faith, education and service for the full development of a person.
Pamela is survived by her husband and friend of 62 years, one daughter, three granddaughters, one great grandson, and, her two precious cats.
On Sunday October 18, 2026 Pamela’s physical body succumbed to the harsh realities of organic shutdown. The physical shell is gone, but the people Pamela’s life touched remain to continue her humanity and care for all God’s children.
Pamela’s wish is to be cremated and her ashes spread over the nature she loved so dearly. A celebration of life service is being planned for a future date.
