Obituary

Jack Carlton Craig, age 77, of Clatskanie, Oregon, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was born on July 17, 1949, in Roswell, New Mexico, to Kenneth Lee (Bo) Craig and Nellie Louise Schoolcraft. Throughout his life, Jack exemplified a spirit of independence and determination. He was the youngest of four brothers. As a child, he accepted the Lord at age six and remained faithful to Him throughout his lifetime.

Jack graduated from Gallup High School, where he participated in football and wrestling. He went on to attend Eastern New Mexico College and Golden Gate Theological Seminary, earning a master’s degree in theology with a minor in psychology.

He dedicated his life to service and hard work. In his early years, Jack shared his faith and connected with people as a Southern Baptist minister. Later, he transitioned to the industrial sector, ultimately retiring after a fulfilling career as a bulldozer driver in a chip yard at a paper mill.

Outside of work, Jack had a deep affection for animals, including his dogs, cats, snakes, chickens, and crows. Catching critters remained a beloved hobby throughout his adulthood. Music was another great passion of Jack’s; he loved playing the guitar and spent decades performing for many, especially enjoying the simple joy of playing music for loved ones around a campfire.

Jack’s life was enriched by a large, beautifully blended family. He shared early chapters of his life and children with Connie Isabel and Virginia Harrison, who began the journey of his fatherhood. He found his ultimate purpose and lasting home when he married Carol Linton Razo in December 1984. For over forty years, Carol was his steady anchor, devoted partner, and the love of his life, walking hand in hand with him through every season and surrounding him with unwavering care until the very end.

Though his family’s journey took different paths, Jack took immense pride in seeing his children grow, creating unique moments and memories with each of them. He was famously his kids’ number one fan, showing up with fierce loyalty to cheer them on in sports, creative pursuits, and every new endeavor they chose to take on. Beyond his family, Jack possessed a profound ability to love deeply, accept people exactly as they were, and offer unwavering forgiveness to those around him.

Jack was preceded in death by his beloved son, Sheridan; his beloved daughter, Kristi; and his brothers, Royce and Leslie. He is survived by his devoted wife, Carol Craig; his brother, Kenney; and his six children: Shane, Joy, Jennifer, Dustin, Amanda, and Hyde. He is also survived by a large group of grandchildren, extended family, and lifelong friends who will cherish his memory. His family will remember him for his stubborn wisdom, powerful storytelling, campfire music, and enduring presence in their lives.

A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at the Clatskanie Cultural Center, followed by a potluck. Please bring your favorite dish to share!

To honor Jack and his fantastic, unique style, guests are encouraged to wear animal-printed T-shirts and to bring a rock to include in a special tribute
