Obituary

In the afternoon of October 4th, 2026, Gracie Evelyn Worley (née Bocook) passed away in her home in Portland, Oregon, surrounded by her family. Gracie was 93 years old and had lived with heart disease for 15 years before peacefully passing.

Gracie Evelyn Bocook was born in a boxcar home in Bonner County, Idaho, on January 1st, 1933, shortly after the bells rang. She was the first baby born in Bonner County, Idaho, and was the eighth of nine children of Thomas Jacob Bocook and Flossie May O’Neel Bocook.

Gracie was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She was lovingly known as “Meema” to her grandchildren. She embodied strength as a single mother in the 1970s, working for Social Security to provide for her daughter. She was loving and kind to everyone she encountered, and she stood firm in what was right, always willing to defend those who needed it.

Gracie was an All-American girl who loved ice cream, hamburgers with extra mayo, Elvis Presley, and mystery novels. She lived her faith daily, reading her Bible every morning before coming out of her room, followed by a cup of tea and toast while working on a crossword puzzle. This was her routine all of her life.

Gracie is survived by her daughter Ruth Worley-Rizk and her son-in-law Boutros Rizk, her grandchildren Hanni Rizk-Heggenes, Brandi Worley, Ethan Worley, Maria Gonzales, and Leilah Rizk, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Gracie was the last living of the Bocook children and was preceded in death by her son Mark Alan Worley; her “Mama and Papa,” Flossie May O’Neel Bocook and Thomas Jacob Bocook; and her siblings: Daisy Draine, Elby Bocook, Dorothy Passmore, Flossie Berg, Henry Bocook, Lynville Bocook, Ruby West, and Shirley Sams.

A Memorial service is planned for November 8th at 1:00 PM at Omega Funeral and Cremation Services, 223 SE 122nd Ave, Portland, Oregon. Gracie will be privately inurned at Fairmount Memorial Park in Spokane, Washington, at a later date.

Gracie will be missed by many and thought of often. Gracie’s greatest comfort and strength was her faith. She faced the end of her earthly life with confidence, knowing that she would soon be in Heaven with Jesus. She is now home, at peace, and forever in the presence of her Savior.
