February 12, 1933 - January 25, 2024 Share your Memorial with Family & Friends Marian Renee Derby died quietly in her sleep, January 25, 2024, freed at last from the dementia that had held her hostage for nearly a decade. Marian was preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Martha Anne Carson; her husband Richard Lee (Dick) Derby; brothers Gordon Crawford and Norman Rice; sisters Marge Adair, Wanda Anderson, and Bette Lou Guyer. Marian is survived by her sister, Joan McClendon (Don), four biological children, Heather Derby-Clark (Jim), John Derby (Darby), Richard Scott Derby, Camilla Dolan (Bill), 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and dozens of other children who called her mom and grandmother. Marian spent her life in service to others. She spent decades serving Lincoln Street United Methodist Church as a Sunday school teacher, administrative assistant to various pastors, treasurer, council member, property manager, and landscaper, just to name a few. She spent years volunteering for the Foster Parent Association. She volunteered at Hosford School of the Deaf, Atkinson Elementary and Franklin High school. When her youngest kids were middle school age, she began her career at Franklin High school. She retired from Franklin High school after spending a little better than 20 years working in the counseling office. Marian’s greatest legacy is the love, care, and hospitality to all. She fed the hungry. She gave drink to the thirsty. She invited in those that had no home. She clothed those that had none. She cared for the sick and those that could not care for themselves. She will be missed.
