Elaine Ann (Hartung) Leslie

October 20, 1929-April 13, 2024

94 Years

Elaine Ann Hartung was born in Portland , Oregon to Alphonse and Helen Hartung and attended Ascension Grade School, St. Mary’s Academy (‘47) and one year at OSU gaining lifelong Delta Delta  Delta  friendships.

Preceded in death by her parents, brothers Daniel, Richard, David, and survived by her two sisters, Mary Clair O’Connor and Sr. Susanne Hartung SP.

She met the love of her life; John A. Leslie on March 17, 1951, after a day of skiing at the Log Lodge in Rhododendron dancing the polka and schottische continuing the dance for 72 years.

They married April 26, 1952, a family soon followed with Elaine as the matriarch who kept the social calendar and the home in order.  Elaine is survived by  John and their seven children: Tim(Beverly), Tom(Joan), Kathleen Hermann(Bernd), Karen Dulley(Dan), Mike(Lisa) , Mark and Susan Dillon(Jerry), 21 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Elaine was an active member St. Therese Parish with a wide circle of friends that became the foundation for John and Elaine’s social life and participation in the community.  Dinner parties, bridge, Lost Lake, travel to Hawaii , Palm Desert, Manzanita, cruises and trips with family to Europe were highlights of a life well lived.  Her large family brought immense joy as the house was always busy with an extra plate for whomever showed up.

The last 30 days of in-home hospice care provided time for family and friends to share love and laughter with Elaine who left this world peacefully with family in her midst and joy in her heart.

At Elaine’s request a memorial service celebrating her life with John will take place when John joins her; her only regret was that John was not on the same flight to heaven.
