Obituary
Samuel “Sam” Frank Nebel Jr., 82, passed away peacefully in the afternoon of September 10, 2026.
Born in Portland, Oregon, Sam grew up in Arlington, Washington. He attended Willamette University, where he met his beloved wife, Andrea. The two were married in May 1966, just two days before their graduation.
Sam devoted 30 years of service to the Oregon Children’s Services Division before retiring. Samuel’s greatest passions were his family, friends, and outdoor adventures. An avid mountaineer and rock climber, he found deep joy in exploring nature and climbed peaks across the Pacific Northwest, including Mount Rainier, Mount Hood, Mount Adams, Mount Baker, and Mount St. Helens.
Sam is survived by his sons, Kirk (Samantha) and Jay (Carrie); his siblings, Steve Nebel, Elizabeth Gregerson, Sally Troxell, and Veta Nebel; and his grandchildren, Max, Juno, Elizabeth, and Mackenzie, all of whom loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his wife, Andrea; his sister, Mary; and his parents, Samuel and Eleanor Nebel. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at Omega Funeral & Cremation in Portland, Oregon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Sam’s honor to the Mazamas or Boys & Girls Aid.
