William “Bill” Francis Wegner

April 18, 1938 – August 13, 2023

William (Bill) Francis Wegner (85) of Gresham, Oregon passed away on 8/13/2023 at Adventist Hospital in Portland, Oregon.

Bill was born 4/18/1938 in Kenosha, Wisconsin to parents Vincent and Mary (Voreck) Wegner. He is named after his maternal and paternal grandfathers. Most of his childhood was spent in Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois and Indiana, where he graduated from Frankfort High School. This is where he met and married Patricia Ann Davis the day after graduation. Together they had five children and were married for sixty seven years. Bill worked for Woolworth in high school, which was the beginning of a long career in retail. Bill and Pat moved often in the early years of marriage; Danville and Chicago Illinois, Big Rapids, Grand Rapids and Grandville Michigan. In 1966 Bill left Woolworth to go to work for Ben Franklin Variety Stores and moved his family to Crystal Lake, Illinois. Bill was promoted to Director of Store Operations in 1976 and moved his family to Anoka, Minnesota. Another move came in 1979 to Gresham, Oregon where he lived with Pat until his passing.

Bill is survived by his wife Pat, and five children, son David (Linda) Wegner, son Michael (De- bra) Wegner, daughter Kimberly (James) Henderson, son Jeffrey (Kathleen) Wegner and daughter Debra (Dale) Motley, as well as eleven grandchildren and ten great grand children. Bill enjoyed many hobbies including anything having to do with cars, model building, rock polishing, model trains, but mostly spending time with his children and grand children Bill is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Vincent and Richard, as well as his sister Lynne. A memorial service for Bill was held on 8/23/23 at his residence with family and friends.
