Dee Dee Murphy of Reedsport

December 16, 1948 – October 24, 2023

Dee Dee Murphy of Reedsport, Oregon was born in Seattle, Washington December 16, 1948 to Nona (Willis) and Harold Anderson. Sadly she left us on October 24, 2023.

Dee Dee lived in the Greenlake area of Seattle in her early life. She graduated from Lincoln High School and attended college there. A high school trip to Mexico was the start of a love of travel, although she was a nervous flier for many years.

Dee Dee loved the outdoors and she took advantage of the Pacific Northwest’s treasures. She camped, hiked, skied, kayaked, and was a certified scuba diver. She also enjoyed bowling and was a league bowler for many years.

Dee Dee moved to Anchorage, Alaska in the mid-1980s. Shortly after moving there she met Charlie Murphy, the man she would marry. They moved to Fairbanks and Kenai, Alaska, before moving to Reedsport, Oregon in 1993. They made Reedsport their home in so many ways.
Dee Dee worked for CBSI in Reedsport until her retirement. The work required a lot of travel. She always managed to go to places like Alabama in the summer and Minnesota in the winter, but she enjoyed it all! Eventually Dee Dee traveled so much she could fall asleep on a plane before takeoff. This was quite a change from the woman who had to stay alert and concentrate in order to keep the airplane aloft!

Dee Dee was very active in Reedsport events. She was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and was elected to the Reedsport City Council. She volunteered at the animal shelter and assisted in many city and county events. Dee Dee had a rollicking laugh, a sunny disposition, and never let hard things get her down. We will miss all those things and more. Dee Dee leaves her aunt, Sharon Miller, her cousins, her childhood friends Maggie and Bob Guyott, Charlie’s sister Sheila Murphy, and many other dear friends from the East Coast to the West. She had a large “chosen family.” She was preceded in death by her loving husband Charlie, her parents, and her brother Guy Anderson.

A Celebration of Life service in Reedsport is pending. Memorial donations may be made to the Reedsport K9 Shelter or to any almost any animal welfare organization. Dee Dee did love critters!
