Vivian A. Anderson

February 26, 1926 - September 23, 2019

Vivian Anderson passed away peacefully at the age of 93 in her home with her family by her side. Vivian was born at Emanuel Hospital in Portland, Oregon to parents Edward and Svea Annette (Johnson) Ulin. She grew up in North Portland in the Overlook neighborhood and graduated from Jefferson High School.

Her first job was at Montgomery Wards in the plumbing department. She then worked at Meier and Frank in the candy department and then Metropolitan Life Insurance and finished out her 27-year career at U.S. Bank (Woodstock Boulevard Branch) as a Personal Service Representative.

Vivian met her husband, Paul Frederick Hampen, when they were both in the choir at First Immanuel Lutheran Church. They married in 1952 and had 3 children. The family spent many vacations at the Oregon Coast along with fishing trips to Westlake Resort in Florence, Oregon. Paul passed away in 1984.
In 1987, Vivian married her long-time friend Kenneth Anderson whom she also met at church and they both sang in the choir. Through this marriage, Vivian became a member of the Portland Scandinavian Chorus along with the Swedish Society of Linnea. They enjoyed traveling to many American Union of Swedish Singers Conventions. They also enjoyed many cruises together. Through this marriage, Kenneth’s daughters Mia and Ellen joined the family.

Vivian was a lifelong member of First Immanuel Lutheran church. She was involved in many activities and sang in the choir for 70 years.

Her family says what kept Vivian going was her love of chocolate and a small glass of sweet red wine every day at 4:00PM.

We will miss Mom’s witty humor and wonderful sense of adventure.

Vivian was predeceased by her son Lloyd Hampen and both of her husbands. She is survived by her daughters; Elaine Graves (husband Bruce), Annette Wolf (husband Kevin), Mia Barnett (husband Kerry) and Ellen Riness (husband Dave). Grandchildren; Kent, Julie, Matt, Anthony, Christine, Brianne, Anya and Ian.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to First Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Vivian supported Lift Urban Portland Food Pantry and regularly brought a food item to church on Sundays. To honor one of her final wishes, we encourage you to bring a non-perishable food item to the Memorial Service.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at 11:00AM at First Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1816 NW Irving Street, Portland, OR. 97209. A private burial service will be held at Willamette National Cemetery.
