Gary Charles Marino
August 23, 1943 – December 18-2021
Gary Charles Marino, age 78, died at Portland Adventist Medical Center on December 18th, 2021 following a chronic illness.
Gary was born August 23rd, 1943. He was the first born to Joseph and Mary Marino. Gary was a protective brother, cousin, and friend. According to his little brother Carl, once anyone realized he (Carl) was Gary’s brother he was handled with kid gloves. No one was allowed to mess with Gary’s little brother.
He was a lifelong member of Ascension Catholic Church, even attending grade school at Ascension Catholic Church. He also attended Madison high school and graduated from David Douglas high school in 1972.
Gary served in the United States Navy from 1962 – 1965.
He met Marilyn (Lynne) at a Catholic Youth Organization (C.Y.O) dance in 1965. Gary married Lynne the love of his life and best friend in 1966. In 1972, they welcomed their first baby girl Angela Mary Marino. In 1974, Nichole Michelle Marino was born and completed the family.
Gary retired after 29 years with Tri-Met as a bus driver. Driving a bus was more than a job to Gary. He had the innate ability to talk to anyone and become great friends with strangers.
He enjoyed anything involving the outdoors. Whether that was hunting, fishing, camping, or RVing with family and friends. He also loved to cook and bake, just to share it and give it all away to family and friends. He would make many batches of biscotti or huge batches of spaghetti sauce, and package it and give it away.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Mary and daughter Angela Pulliam. He leaves his wife, Marilyn (Lynne), of 55 years, daughter Nichole Peters (Michael), brother Carl (Lenore), many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Ascension Catholic Church on January 6th, 2022 at 12:00pm
(743 SE 76th Ave Portland, Oregon 97215).
