Daniel “Danny” Frank Harry

1954 – 2021

Daniel “Danny” Frank Harry passed away peacefully from a stroke on July 9th, 2021, at St. Vincent Hospital in Portland, Oregon; he was 67 years old.

Danny was born in Long Beach, California on May 25th 1954, to James Edward and Dorothy Evelyn Harry. He was a graduate of Polytechnic High School and grew up surfing, dirt biking and playing the drums. He was a basketball fan (Lakers/Chick Hearn) and he loved his loyal dogs, family and friends. “Danny was everyone’s best friend. Always willing to help you with any issue you were dealing with, mechanical or otherwise. [He] was such a positive influence on everyone that numerous people named their child after him. He was a true friend.”

Danny worked in the auto parts industry for the bulk of his California years. He enjoyed all aspects of motorsports, metalwork, and going fast.  He was most proud of his son John Harry and followed his sporting career and education through graduate school. Dan was elated that John earned his Ph.D. in Biomechanics and became a college professor at Texas Tech.

Danny loved riding motorcycles; he raced a drag bike, dirt bikes, cars, go-karts, and built a beautiful Falcon hot-rod. He was an uncle to many people: “He taught me how to win and be a respected champion.” Danny generated a lot of respect, returned it back, and was in his true element at any racetrack. Danny and his family moved from the Orange County area of California to Central Oregon, where he lived in Bend for many years. He later met his wife when they worked at St. Charles Hospital in Bend and then recently retired to southern Oregon.

He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Eve, son John Harry, sister DeeDee Williams, brother John Thompson, nephew Jim Williams, niece Paula Fox, nephews Daniel, Jake and Travis Thompson and great-nieces Kandi Drechsel and Stevie Gulman. He was a loving and caring stepfather to Eve’s two children, Ariel and Evan. Danny also considered Rob and Rick Sine as his brothers and was a beloved uncle to Chris, Tim and Danny Sine. Thank you to Rick and Chris Sine for their quotes about Dan that are shared throughout. We love you, Danny!

A celebration of Danny’s life will be held at a date TBA.  Please leave comments on the mortuary’s website if you would like to honor Danny Harry. Thank you in advance for helping to remember his gratifying and adventurous life. The family wishes to thank the staff of St. Vincent Neuro Critical Care Department and the Comfort Care nurses for their compassion and care of Danny; also to Omega Funerals and Cremations for their services.

“Life is not about waiting for the storms to pass; it’s about learning to ride in the rain”

“A long ride…a little more laughter, a little less worry, a little more kindness, a little less hurry”
