Jean Stogianis

October 18, 1949 - May 23, 2018

On Wednesday, April 23, 2018, Jean Marie (Hagen) Stogianis passed away peacefully with her family beside her after an extended battle with complications from cancer. Jean was born in Shelby, Montana on October 18, 1949 to Albert and Betty Hagen.

Jean graduated from Libby High School in Libby, Montana in 1967. She attended Clatsop College in Astoria, Oregon where she majored in Education. In 1971 Jean met the love of her life and married her best friend Vasilios (Bill) Stogianis. In the years following, Jean & Vasilios had three children together, and later became grandparents. She and her husband shared 46 happy years of marriage together. Being a wife, parent & grandparent truly was her greatest joy.

Jean lived a lifetime full of strength and kindness. Regardless of battling her own adversities, her heart was always open and she loved with every ounce of her being. She was embraced everywhere she went in life, and brought joy to many. Her positive attitude and perseverance were unparalleled—even her physicians routinely said that there were no scientific reasons how she was able to survive such immense critical illness. She was commonly referred to as “Jean The Machine.” She was truly a gladiator!

In Jean’s spare time she adored road trips with her husband, good coffee, and good conversation. She was incredibly quick witted and loved humor. She often joked that “having a laugh” was the most important slice in the “pie of life.”

Jean was also an avid music lover who listened to everything from The Beatles (her all time fav), to Bee Gees, to The Smashing Pumpkins. It was not unusual to see her foot tapping and head nodding when a song caught her fancy. She was also a very talented artist. Jean loved sketching & painting landscapes. She also loved her home & took pride in decorating to the nines for every season and holiday.

To say that Jean will be missed is an understatement, but her rich character will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.

Her family takes solace in that she is free of pain and with her beloved daughter, Maria (Stogianis) Suh (Nov 4, 1977 – April 23, 2016).

Jean is survived by her husband Vasilios Stogianis, sister Debbie Reid, two of her three children, Brian and Anastasia Stogianis, nieces, nephews, and beautiful grandchildren.

A celebration of life is being arranged & we will update when we solidify plans.
