Gregory Dennis Barsaloux of Portland, Oregon passed away peacefully of natural causes on Sunday July 7th, 2019; at the age of 59.

Greg was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on December 13th, 1959. He was the first child of Barbara Ann and Dennis Lawrence Barsaloux. He grew up in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota with his Mother, Father and younger sister Karen. In 1975 Greg enlisted in the Army at the age of 16. He served 4 years; 3 were stationed in Germany. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant First Class “E7” in 1979.

Greg moved to Oregon in 1980 where he met his soon to be wife Cathy Delaney. They married in 1982 and spent the next 25 years together. They were blessed with a son, Nicholas Gregory and daughter Brittney Michele. He worked at Ventura Foods from 1981 until he retired; starting from the bottom and worked his way up to second in command. He was a hardworking man who was actively involved in church. He filled his time with family, friends and sport activities with his children. He loved their annual family trips to Disneyland, Lake Tahoe, the Oregon coast and camping.

Greg met Dawna Beck in 2008 with whom he spent the remainder of his days with. They enjoyed exploring Oregon together; camping, beach trips and taking his Jeep out to the mountains. During these years he continued to pursue his passion of helping others through sobriety, as well as his own.

Greg was a man of character and compassion. He had a deep faith in God and a heart for helping others. Although he had his own struggles he never stopped fighting. He ran AA meetings, volunteered at “Hopes Table” and played a vital role in Celebrate Recovery. He was a fixer of all things a “MacGyver”, a prankster, a good listener, a mentor and a longtime fan of the Minnesota Vikings.

Greg was preceded in death by his parents Dennis and Barbara Barsaloux and his sister Karen Johnson.  He is survived by his son Nicholas Barsaloux, daughter Brittney Gandy, as well as his grandchildren: Shianne, Jenalyn, Bryson, Kylie and Jaxon.

He was a loving father and a wonderful Grandpa. He was a true friend and loved by many. He will forever be missed by all.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Greg’s honor to the Salvation Army.


A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday July 17th, 2019 at 11:00am at Willamette National Cemetery with reception to follow at Stark Street Pizza.
