Funeral Service will be held July 1, 2017, 1:00 PM at Morning Star Baptist Church 631 S Douglas Ave , Pasco, WA 99301.
Eloise “Sista” McClendon, age 92 passed away Monday, June 19, 2017 at home in Portland, Oregon. Born September 27, 1924 in Ida, Louisiana to Joe and Mattie Haney, she was the baby and only girl of four children, and somewhere along the way she acquired the nickname of “Sista”, and it would last her lifetime.
In 1940 at the age of sweet sixteen she met and married George McClendon. After George was honorably discharged from the army in 1943, they rejoined her family now living in Pasco WA. and settled down to start their own family. By 1969, although now a mother of five, she began a job at Hanford (Westinghouse) that spanned 20 years until her retirement in 1989.
Eloise lived in Pasco for 58 years and in that time her love for family, friends and even strangers would become a mirror reflection of her unsurpassed love for God. She was a dedicated member and “Mother” at Morning Star Baptist church under the officiant of Pastor Alvin Rhodes. Her faith was simple but all encompassing: If you were hungry, she fed you. If you needed extra money to make ends meet and she had it, she gave it to you. If you needed someone to listen, she would do it without judgement. She had a smile that was pure sunshine and the gift of bestowing pearls of wisdom so gently they never failed to touch your heart.
An angel on earth that will truly be missed by all who were blessed to know her.
Eloise is survived by her children, JoAnne Nobles, Emma “Jean” Davis, and Sandra Alleyne of Portland, Or., Gerry “Mac” McClendon of Kennewick, WA. and Debra McClendon of Vancouver WA.; her nieces, Dorothy (Gibson) Miles, Teresa Weathers of Pasco WA., Janice Clark of Portland, Or., and nephew, Bennie Craig of Pasco WA. Eloise was blessed with (17) grandchildren, (48) great grandchildren and (3) great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Mattie Haney, and her brothers; Joe Haney Jr., Bennie “Son” Haney and Johnny Haney.
