January 12, 1955-December 7, 2019

Dennis  was born in Oakland, California to Joanne Oline Mattoon (Arnesen) and Richad Mattoon. Dennis passed away peacefully in Vancouver, Washington from complications of dementia. He was surrounded by loved ones. His father preceded him in death.

Dennis knew from an early age he wanted to teach. He spent his career as a high school automotive teacher at Columbia /Reynolds High School in Troutdale, Oregon. He taught there for 32 years before becoming Dean of Industrial & Automotive Technology at Mt Hood Community College in Troutdale, Oregon for 5 years. During his long career he made the difference in the lives of so many students.  After retirement in 2013, he enjoyed spending time with his family, woodworking, and proudly continued teaching as a volunteer docent at the Oregon Rail Heritage Center in Portland, Oregon.

Dennis is survived by his mother Joanne Mattoon , wife Diane (Turchi) Mattoon,  Son Colin (Marianne) Mattoon , daughter Megan Mattoon, stepson Anthony (Ashley) Turchi and stepdaughter Lia Turchi, grandchildren, Davis and Ellie Mattoon, his sibling Paul Mattoon of Vallejo, California and Kristin Colbath (Mattoon) of Jupiter Florida as well as his much loved nieces and nephews.

Dennis’ legacy will live on through his students and he will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, January 19, 2020 at 530pm, at the Oregon Rail Heritage Foundation  Museum at 2250 SE Water Avenue, Portland, Oregon.
