Beverly Jean Schafer

After a courageous 4yr battle with cancer, Beverly Jean (Powell) Schafer having enjoyed 88yrs of life on earth and not wanting to leave, with family at her side, succumbed to join her heavenly family. Beverly was born in Lebanon, OR to Harold V. Powell and Emma M. (Cooper) Powell. She was a descendent of Oregon pioneer and logging families. Ancestors including the Cooper-Perry families that settled and lived in the Sweet Home area, with property claims in Pleasant Valley on Cooper Hill and the Powell-Shepherd families that settled in and near Dallas, OR.
Beverly moved to Prineville around 1945 where she later met and married fellow race car driver Roy Alfred Baxter in June, 1952. They both raced stock cars and won at the Prineville Race Track. They moved to Sweet Home, OR and had two children Lance Baxter and Mary Walker (Brian) of Portland, OR. Roy’s Parents Jesse James Baxter and Alice Victoria (Davis) Baxter lived with them for many years.
Beverly and Roy divorced abt. 1965. Beverly married Alvin Benjamin Schafer of Portland, OR, 1969 and 1976. Of this marriage two sons, Richard Silverman (Traci) of Portland, OR and Terry Silverman (Ginger) of AZ. Beverly has many Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. She loved all and was loved by all. A stranger was only a friend she hadn’t met.
Funeral Services will be Mon. Mar. 26, 11am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 3233 NE 162nd, Portland, OR. Internment will follow at Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 SE Mt. Scott Blvd at 2pm. A dinner for the family will follow at the Russellville Grange 12105 NE Prescott Street.
